Designed to empower young people to strive for the professions, MicroSociety transforms school into student-run, hands-on, learning experiences that encourage student leadership. These small group learning opportunities incorporate financial literacy, communications, public service, and business into the ultimate preparation for the career world. MICROSOCIETY empowers youth to be managers of their own destiny.
A TYPICAL STUDENT’S DAY
Students attend regular classes until the period of the day when the classroom doors open and the Market Place springs into action. Every student K-8 goes through the hiring process, earning a position in a student run business or government office. Students participate in producing, pricing and selling the businesses’ products and services. Each employee earns a weekly pay check, pays taxes and spends their wages in the market place. MicroSociety engages students in authentic work that requires them to apply classroom knowledge and skills in ways that are meaningful to them. Similarly, the classroom experience becomes more relevant and motivates independent and group learning. For more information visit: http://www.microsociety.org/what.php
